Patriot's Daily Quote

Ever since I was assigned to the new Fleet Ballastic Missile Submarine USS JAMES MADISON (SSBN627), I have taken a special interest in that man. In addition to being one of our earliest Presidents who knew all the early ones, he is also regarded as being the author of the U.S. Constitution, ...and secretary/scribe of the Constitutional Convention in 1783.

He has to have been a very brilliant patriot to have done all that, so I have taken a special interest in anything he did, said, and wrote. The attached quote is such an example.

This past summer my wife and I toured his home, Montpelier, located barely 20 miles northeast of Charlottesville VA. It was undergoing overhaul then, so by now, it ought to be fully restored. They have a Welcome Center there where you can see and purchase his writings and other greats of the era, e.g. Washington, Adams, Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison, Franklin,.....what a group of bright superstars! /s/ LeRoy Collins

Founders' Quote Daily

"A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives."

-- James Madison (letter to W.T. Barry, 4 August 1822)
